The Best Home Remedy for Dry Socket Treatment

Dry Socket Home Remedy

If you have looked up dry socket on your search engine and got here, you or your loved one are probably suffering from dry socket. First of all, do not panic. This post is based on the actual experience of a dry socket healing. I know it hurts and I’m sorry. But dry socket management is absolutely achievable. We have been through dry socket and it has healed completely after two months. The excruciating pain went away in less than a day after treating the dry socket with special dressing. What follows is the story of a successful and speedy dry socket management.

Dry socket symptoms

So my husband had his lower right wisdom tooth removed on a Monday. The dentist showed him all the broken pieces of his tooth, assuring him that the whole tooth was out. The dentist also advised him to have an ice-cream an hour later, apparently to help with the blood clotting and to help reduce swelling. We expected the socket to start healing in the following days, but the pain got worse and the socket kept gaping at us. Two days after having his wisdom tooth (also called third molar) removed, my husband felt a terrible pain in the area which radiated all through his right ear and cheek, because – as we found out later- the bone and the nerves were totally exposed in the area of his socket where the blood clot or soft issue had failed to develop effectively. This is the condition called dry socket or alveolar osteitis. No matter how many pain-killers he took, the pain did not stop.

Treating dry socket and relieving dry socket pain with clove oil dressing

We went back to the dentist on Friday (I wish we had done it sooner).  The dentist cleaned the socket and treated the dry socket with a dressing which consisted of a gauze soaked in clove oil. Treating dry socket with clove oil dressing completely worked! So you can rest assured that clove oil dressing is a reliable and natural remedy for dry socket treatment and pain relief. In our experience, it relieved the pain and the dressing covered the socket so the nerves and the bone were not exposed any more. After applying the clove oil dressing, the process of dry socket healing began even while the dressing was still in the socket. Actually, the gum started rebuilding itself from within and below, so it pushed the dressing out in a few days. Week after week, the gum tissue developed inside the socket and the tissues around the gum started sticking together as well. Now, after two months, there is no socket in the area. It is completely closed and healed!

Low cost dry socket treatment with honey dressing

Through the process of dry socket healing, we repeatedly applied natural honey to the area. I believe applying honey soaked gauze on the clean socket is an effective home remedy for dry socket management. According to a study conducted by Vibha Singh, U. S. Pal, Ranjana Singh, and Nikita Soni, which examined the effect of using honey dressing for the treatment of dry socket (alveolar osteitis), honey is efficient in reducing pain and treating dry socket.

What causes dry socket?

Various websites including mayoclinic maintain that dry socket might be caused due to smoking after tooth removal, previous infection in the area, or trauma during the process of tooth removal. My husband is a smoker and he did smoke after his wisdom tooth removal (damn!), but he insists that he has done the same before in the case of his lower left wisdom tooth removal and he did not got any dry socket. Since he felt pain in his wisdom tooth before its removal, it is possible that infection was the culprit.

Conclusion: Speedy and successful dry socket management

If you are suffering from dry socket, applying clove oil dressing and honey dressing can work as the best home remedies to relieve dry socket pain and dry socket treatment. We totally welcome your experiences in dry socket treatment.
