How serious is testicular trauma?

The testicles, due to their special position outside the body, have a high vulnerability which increases the likelihood of injury in the event of an accident. Specialist doctors advise that you should not resort to home treatment if you have a testicular accident and should see a doctor immediately in the case of testicular trauma.

What is testicular trauma?

The type of testicular trauma differs from the type of injury or accident.

Hematoma and bruising

When testicular blood vessels are injured, the testicles can become bruised or contused, which is accompanied by bleeding and hematoma.

Testicular Torsion

A tube called the spermatic cord passes from the abdomen to the testis and encompasses the blood vessels. Injury to the scrotum causes the cord to twist and the problem of testicular torsion can occur. Of course, this damage is sometimes spontaneous and without any damage to the testicles.

Testicular damage can tear the hard and protective coating around it and thus damage the testicle. This type of damage is called testicular rupture.

Some injuries can cause testicular tissue fractures, which may be accompanied by rupture of the protective coating.

In this case, blood is collected under the protective layer around the testis.

Testicular dislocation

The testis may be displaced from the scrotum due to some injury, and may be displaced from the abdomen, near the pubic bone above the penis, or other areas near the scrotum.

Testicular trauma can sometimes damage the epididymis and cause inflammation or infection. Epididymis is a spiral tube that holds sperm after leaving the testis for a while.

Insect bites can cause testicular sac infection.

The testicles absorb part of the trauma due to being spongy without causing serious injury, but if the trauma is too severe it can cause rupture and swelling and even infertility. For example, testicular torsion should be treated very early. If your doctor diagnoses it early, it may not be a problem, but if the trauma is left untreated, the patient may have face testicular loss or a permanent decrease in testicular sperm production which will lead to infertility.
